Rule #3 - Is Pond Scum Considered Equal Substitution?

Hey fearless leader! We haven't heard from you in a while. I have a few vegan cookbooks that use seaweed. Is pond scum considered an equal substitution for seaweed?

  1. It's not nececaraly equal. Yes they are both Algae, but pond scum is a culture mat of single celled algae. It won't really work culinaraly. there is stuff you could do with it, but concider first what pond covered in scum you would feel ok eating and drinking from.

  2. What I meant by equal substitution is can I use seaweed if I get an equal amount of pond scum? I certainly don't want to cook with pond scum!
BTW - once I collect the pond scum, are you going to weigh and measure it oh mighty leader?
    All hail to the DEMARKRACY!

  3. No! If you were to collect seaweed from a questionable source and wanted to substitute that would be permissible. If you found 'food grade pond scum algae' in the store you could swap it out with what you collect at the local cesspool.

I wonder what pond scum tastes like...

  4. So she could substitute Spirulina for pond scum then? There arn't many great recipies for it, but it is a dietary suplimnet that can hlep make the other food more nutritious.

  5. Yes, I would consider that an equal substitution, so long as it is purchased in a form similar to that of cultivation (ie, no tablets.)
