Challenge Saver . . .
Who would have thought that a turkey would save the day - or the challenge. I took the turkey out of the freezer to thaw today. Half of my $10 allowance was spent on the turkey. I bought it before Thanksgiving when they were $.49 per pound. I'm looking forward to some good meals from the turkey. I am going to roast it on Saturday and divide it into packages to use throughout the challenge.

Oooooooh...don't throw anything out! Save the drippings and carcass and everything!
ReplyDeleteYeah, drain off the fat for cooking schmaltz! I've got some in my freezer from thanksgiving. The juices can make gravy. And you can throw the bones in a slow cooker with some veg and spices and make stock!
ReplyDeleteI plan on using most every part (Not certain about the innards - I don't think I can bring myself to eat them.) I'm not sure what schmaltz is - can you explain?
